Tasks of the Land and Spatial Development Board in the field of address data
Address data system
The address data information system (ADS) contains 2.4 million objects, including nearly 990,000 buildings, 550,000 apartments, and 770,000 cadastral units. In addition to official address data, the ADS also contains postal codes (assigned by Omniva) and unofficial addresses and data related to address objects, including unofficial settlements, city districts and neighborhoods, and names of public buildings (e.g., Ülemiste Center, Linnahall, etc).
- All address data is managed in the address data information system (ADS).
- The task of ADS is to ensure the uniform determination and use of addresses.
- The quality of addresses is important—addresses must comply with uniform rules.
- As a support system, the ADS ensures that all address data, including changes, is available to everyone in one place.
Ensuring system compatibility
In everyday communication, an address seems to be a simple attribute that can be expressed in a single word such as "address," "place of residence," "location," "postal address," etc. In reality, an address is one of the most complex objects in information systems because it has a complex internal structure and dynamics of change. Under the Spatial Data Act, address data that complies with the same standards must be used in all databases belonging to the state information system.
Interconnection with ADS enables both private and public sector databases to exchange information, process data, and provide services on a uniform basis. The ADS has been connected to, for example, the land register, population register, building register, land registry, emergency response center, place name register, several banks, infrastructure companies, etc.
